In response to record turnouts in the 2008 election, more than 30 states across the country passed measures to make it harder for Americans — particularly African-Americans, the elderly, students and people with disabilities — to exercise their most fundamental right. Ohio's law would cut that state's early voting period in half. More than a million-and-a-half Ohioans voted early in 2008, roughly 30-percent of all ballots cast in the state.

I think it's very important to vote early because I'm a parent, and I have so many things to do. I'm always running. I have no clue what I'm gonna be doing the day it comes time to vote. And then everybody's out voting, usually, during that day. It's kind of too hectic. I think voting early, for me, it just-- it just gives me a little leeway, just a little cushion. My grandmother and a few of her friends, they vote. And they've been voting since, I guess, since they've been allowed to vote. It's just important to give people more than one opportunity to do it. I mean... I think if you take that away, you lose a lot of votes.
